Artist Statement
Creation – Meditation – Play
Creating art from clay is my passion. It lifts me up, gives me solace and peace. It is comparable to being in contact with the earth which connects us to the very beginning of time.
Whilst living in Armidale I was lucky enough to find amazing Japanese potters who awakened my passion to create. Kiyo and Kumi Hashimoto emigrated to Australia in 1991and set up their studio in this rural town which I loved so much.
Although the Japanese aesthetic has stayed with me, especially the ash glazes, I have found my own unique style. Furthermore, studying at Newcastle TAFE for 12 months with Sue Stewart, Helen Dunkerley and Suzanne Reid further inspired me.
Hand building is my forte with the wheel coming into play intermittently. Glazes excite me. I like fine lines and unusual shapes and forms which often come about organically. This comes from my soul and innate creative spirit.
